Closet Remodel : Manhattan, New York

This large reach-in closet was full of potential but it lacked both form and function. Its original state featured a sagging closet rod, a painted wooden shelf, and non-existent lighting. The remodel would involve the installation of a suspended closet system and new electrical to support the lighted closet rods that would transform the closet into a brighter, more functional and inviting space... .

The Issue:

  • Lacked functionality
  • Sagging clothes rod
  • No light source
  • Low end materials

The Mission:

  • To transform this contractor grade closet to a more functional and attractive space...

The Design:

To provide maximum access and a sleek modern look the closet would feature three, 36-inch, bypass, sliding, frosted glass doors with walnut-colored frames. A suspended cherry wood closet system would provide much needed organization and usability. Glass shoe racks provide a sleek display while tall and short hang lighted closet rods provide a functional light source and a cool wow factor.

The Construction:

The walls were reinforced with wood blocking to support the suspended closet system. Electrical wiring was installed to support the lighted closet rods which were then connected to a motion sensor which allowed for automatic light activation. The walls were then plastered, sanded and painted. The suspended closet system was installed and the bypass frosted glass doors followed. See the "before" and "after" transformation in the photos shown above.
